The Only Thing About Us That's Sunny Side Up ] >>

Baby girl born yesterday, everything else a practice run until now. Tiny life flickering inside mine, now outside. I did this. We did this.

I have clinical language. Labor induced at 40 weeks and one day due to gestational hypertension and concerns regarding ovarian/abdominal mass of unknown origin. Patient admitted 4 centimeters dilated, administered penicillin and pitocin intravenously until onset of contractions at 0800 hours the following day. Patient dilated to 7 centimeters by 1300 hours then requested spinal epidural, despite patient previously indicating she wanted an unmedicated birth. The second epidural succeeded where the first one failed. Patient napped from 1400 hours until 1500 hours, upon which dilation increased to 8 centimeters, then 9 centimeters by 1600 hours.

Patient pushed from 1600 hours until 18:53, whereupon she declared "I can't do this." At 18:54 baby girl was born, light meconium staining her amniotic fluid, in the occiput posterior position, at 9 pounds 5 ounces 22 inches long.

There was no fucking way she was coming out without an epidural.
