This is just after we've finished smoking, and the air in the room hangs heavy with taboo. This girl, probably my best friend at this point, is hanging over her boyfriend's lap, asking, "So who here has a crush on Amanda?"

She raises her hand, and then her boyfriend raises his hand, and then the other boy in the room raises his hand. Me, alone in the middle, I say, "This is awkward."

Later I ask the third boy, "So when you raised your hand, that was genuine?"

"Yes."

"Oh my."

And that's kind of where everything is right now.
